Procedure Information

If you have sun damaged skin or are uncomfortable going out of the house without makeup because of the appearance of your skin, you might just be a candidate for facial rejuvenation.

What exactly is facial rejuvenation? We define it as the use of laser and light based devices, radio frequency, and microdermabrasion to improve the texture, tone and look of the face. Many people think this is painful and requires a lot of downtime, but nothing can be further from the truth. The newest technologies allow us to improve many of the imperfections that bother man patients most without downtime or discomfort.

The most common problems cleared with facial rejuvenation are brown spots, red veins, or blotchiness caused by hormonal changes. What people don’t realize is these areas can be easily cleared without pain, bruising or irritation to the skin.

Improved texture is another problem people often complain about. They see that over the years their skin has appeared to thicken and the pores are larger giving the skin a ruddy or rough appearance. The combination of Fractionated CO2, intense pulsed light and radio frequency used in Facial Rejuvenation techniques reduces pore size and stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, producing a smoother skin texture.

The appearance of small blood vessels on the cheeks or the nose is another common problem that can be cleared with facial rejuvenation.

“The combination of facial rejuvenation with cosmetic injectables such as Botox, Restylane, or Radiance can truly make you look much younger,” says Dr. Oliva. Maintaining a youthful appearance is so much easier today due to medical and technological advancements. Is it painful?
By cooling the skin prior, during, and after treatment most patients do not find this procedure painful, although in some cases there might be a minimum amount of discomfort. For patients that are extra sensitive to pain we can prescribe a topical anesthetic cream to be applied 45 minutes before coming in for the procedure.

How long after the treatment will it take for me to see results?
Since facial rejuvenation covers a lot of different conditions, including resolving vascular lesions, uneven skin tone, sun damage and reduction of wrinkles and fine lines the length of time is dependent upon the patient’s specific concerns. In the case of vascular lesions and areas of darker pigmentation results will usually begin to appear within 1-2 weeks after the first treatment. Some patients will notice a reduction in pore size and a smoother skin texture within just a couple of weeks. However, to get the most from facial rejuvenation patients should expect the effects to be cumulative over a period of about 3-5 months and continue to improve up to 6 months after the last treatment.

What do I look like immediately after the procedure?
Most patients experience nothing immediately after treatment; others might see a mild redness.

Am I allowed to use makeup to cover the treated areas?
Since most facial rejuvenation procedures are either non-ablative or ablative with minimal downtime. There is no problem in covering the treated area with makeup immediately after treatment.
